Spelling Bee is a word-building puzzle played with seven letters arranged in a honeycomb. Six letters appear around one required center letter. Your objective is to find as many accepted words as possible using only the available letters.
Words must normally contain at least four letters, and the center letter must appear in every answer. Letters can be used more than once, allowing you to create longer words and different forms from the same limited set.
The well-known New York Times Spelling Bee was created by puzzle constructor Frank Longo. It first appeared in print in 2015, followed by a digital daily edition in 2018. The browser game embedded on this page is an independent implementation of the Spelling Bee format and is not the official New York Times game.

Each puzzle begins with seven letters. One letter is placed in the center of the hive and must be included in every submitted word. The six surrounding letters are optional, and you can use any available letter more than once.
Enter an accepted word to add it to your list and increase your score. Continue testing combinations until you have found as many words as possible. The score display shows your current points and the total available for the active puzzle.
A pangram is a word that uses all seven letters in the hive at least once. Letters may be repeated, so a pangram can be longer than seven letters. Finding one is especially useful because it covers the complete letter set and usually earns bonus points.
Your score increases whenever the game accepts a new word. Four-letter words generally receive the smallest number of points, while longer words earn more. A pangram normally receives an additional bonus for using the complete set of seven letters.
The exact target changes with each puzzle because some letter combinations produce more accepted words than others. Instead of aiming for a fixed score, compare your current points with the total displayed for the active puzzle.
